Buddha Dordenma

The Buddha Dordenma is a giant statue of Shakyamuni Buddha located in the Kingdom of Bhutan. This majestic statue is situated on a hill overlooking the capital city of Thimphu. The Buddha Dordenma stands at a height of 51.5 meters (169 feet), making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world.

The construction of the Buddha Dordenma was initiated to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the fourth king of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue is made of bronze and gilded in gold. It is surrounded by 125,000 smaller Buddha statues, also made of bronze and gilded. The interior of the Buddha Dordenma houses a large meditation hall.

This iconic monument not only serves as a religious and spiritual symbol but also contributes to the aesthetic beauty of the Bhutanese landscape. It has become a popular pilgrimage site and a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world to witness its grandeur and soak in the serene atmosphere of the surrounding hills.
